Genotyping with Microsatellite Markers

Microsatellites are simple sequence repeat polymorphisms. Microsatellite alleles differ in the number of repetitive di-, tri-, or tetra-nucleotide units present, and this length variation is detected with PCR by using pairs of primers flanking each simple repeat sequence.

The MS marker abundance, degree of polymorphism, ease of identification, and low mutation rates in mammalian genomes make MS the preferred genetic markers for estimating genetic variation and taxonomy delimitation. We are experienced in using microsatellite markers for genotype identification in avian, mammalian, invertebrates and also plant.

We are currently using Canine Genotypes Panel 1.1 Kit from Thermo Scientific for our canine genotyping service.
